English Alpine Ski Championships return to Bormio

2017 marks 10th anniversary in the Italian resort

Snowsport England have confirmed that the English Alpine Ski Championships will return to Bormio, Italy in 2017, marking the event’s 10th year in the authentic Italian ski and spa town.

After a hugely successful event in 2016, which saw over 400 competitors aged from Under 10 upwards battle it out for supremacy on the slopes, 2017 will see Bormio play host to the 21st English Alpine Ski Championships running from Saturday 11th – Friday 17th February.

The 2016 English Alpine Championships were again blessed with good weather and not only hundreds of competitors, but also hundreds of coaches, supporters, parents and volunteers, making for a unique and buzzing atmosphere. The event was also well supported by sponsors Bormio Ski, Rossignol, Vital, Endsleigh, Ski Bartletts and Racer Ready.

Tim Fawke, Chief Executive of Snowsport England said of the Championships’ upcoming 21st anniversary: “2016 was one of the best Champs we have run yet, with a record number of entries and a real buzz amongst racers and supporters alike. We are hugely indebted to all our sponsors and volunteers who make the event run smoothly.

“We are delighted to announce our return to Bormio for the 10th time in 2017. Bormio not only offers some of the best race pistes in the world, it also offers a warm welcome and authentic Italian hospitality, making the resort a joy to work with.”

President of the Bormio Tourism Board Elisa Bonacorsi said:“Bormio is very excited to be the host town of the English Alpine Championships for the tenth year in a row. The Stelvio slope, already the scene of big events such as the World Ski Championships and the World Cup, as well as the Stella Alpina slope, are both a great test for these young ski talents. Passion, determination and devotion of the athletes are the ingredients that characterise this special and thrilling competition.

For this reason we feel deeply honored that Bormio, destination with the word "sport" written in its DNA, will again be the location for next year's edition. We thank the organisation for the outstanding work they carried out in the past editions and for the continued cooperation. Good luck to everyone!”

The English Alpine Championships continue to feature the rising stars of Alpine skiing in England and offer a fantastic opportunity for younger racers to gain professional racing experience on world-class race pistes.
