Salomon Bonfire pro riders
Monday 27th February On Monday 27th February the Club will be welcoming the Salomon Bonfire pro riders who will be showing off their skills. The main slope will be used by those boarders who are signed off as freestylers and help to put out equipment, from 6pm onwards, and put away at the end will be very welcome. The supervised session will run at the Normal time 7pm to 8pm but will use the Nursery slope and the Intermediate slope only. Sorry. Monday night is Boarders only.
Take two – Parkstrife!
Parkstrife is the mega monthly slopeside freestyle session which takes place at England’s leading indoor slopes Snozone in MK & Castleford, and we’re currently midway through our dual slalom of Snowbombing takeovers!
The next date for your diaries is Fri 24th Feb from 7pm-midnight at Snozone Castleford, Xscape Yorkshire with URBAN KNIGHTS, CH!CO (FBBB) + T-ON-J (Kinky Malinki) and Pro riders Gareth Andrews & Sam Cullum.
Our veritable Vodka-blending buddies ERISTOFF will be manning (or rather girling!) the bars (never has the term ‘wolf whistle’ been more appropriate…) and our mates from Motorola will be there, ‘bomb-testing their great new ‘piste proof’ handset, The DEFY (blimey, if it defies the damage through these two parties it’ll get our stamp of approval…)
So get yourself in shape for SB:12 and come and join us in the powder for a Snowbombing flava’d Friday evening!
The Snozone crew are generously giving all Snowbombers a discount code, which reduces the cost of a 5 hour ticket from £37 to £30 (this includes admission, board & boot hire and snowtime)

National Age Categories for 2012
The Age Categories for the national races for 2012 have been published. There is still discussion going on about 2013 and beyond so these categories are for 2012 only. We will be publishing the ERSA age categories for 2012 very shortly.
National Treasures!
A National Treasure is a shared cultural asset, the UK’s include Sir David Attenborough, Stonehenge, The Queen and London Double Decker buses… But they were all busy, so we found some others, (who we think are much more fun in any case). Introducing a trio of heroes to sprinkle stardust onto your Snowbombing…
Mr Motivator
He’s back! And this time its personal…fitness! All Bran, prunes and Mr. Motivator: they all get the nation moving… But only one of these wears a lilac leotard!!! Now a Snowbombing regular, we’ve once again invited the UK’s most recognizable personal trainer to take 15 minute hangover-busting sessions at the top of the Penken each day. Derrick AKA MR MOTIVATOR, the Wizard of warming up and down will be on hand to get you into shape and nicely toned for the day ahead outside the Pilz Bar at the top of the Penken each day from 3pm – everybody say, ”Huh!”
Eddie ‘the Eagle’ Edwards
It’s a partnership that was just meant to be: Britain’s greatest alpine music event getting together with Britain’s most famous Winter Olympian, former Olympic Ski Jumper, TV celebrity and international pop icon, spectacled snow star Eddie “the Eagle” Edwards will be Olympic Hero in Residence at SB:12, and taking special ski sessions at the board park.
The first man ever to represent Britain in an Olympic jumping event, Edwards shocked officials in 1988 by qualifying for the event simply because no other Brit applied and because he recorded a 77-meter jump. He quickly became World famous with his working-class wit and seemingly fearless jumping style. Even though he was a plasterer by trade he still didn’t finish last (some other bloke was disqualified). From there his fame soared: he was always on telly, he wrote his autobiography (‘Eddies on the Piste!’) and even he released a single which topped the charts in Finland. Almost a quarter of a century later, we’re setting the Eagle free again to soar above Mayrhofen – and you could join him! Eddie will be exploring the ski area with various Snowbombers as well as lighting our Olympic flame and getting involved thru the week (last year he was spotted hurling down Black runs, enjoying pasta at the Pyramid every day and moshing to Prodigy in the Eristoff forest: welcome back, Eddie!
Pat Sharp
Eighties ‘Fun House’ legend, party DJ extraordinaire and jungle celeb… Pat Sharp has been booked as MC and DJ for our very own local pub, ‘The Ravers Return’! (Above twins not included…)
The Snowbombing Spring Games: In Association With Breo
To mark 2012, we’re organising ‘The Snowbombing Spring Games’: an interactive competition offering gold medal standard humour and a podium finish!
The Snowbombing Spring Games will take place on Thursday 12th April and seek to draw out the most courageous Snowbombers and pit them against each-other in one unholy battle of blood, sweat and ego’s. As well as being a fascinating spectacle, it should prove very entertaining to watch!
And that’s not all… To ensure that our games withhold the highest level of quality & professionalism (and are completely fair and square), we’ve teamed up with Breo, who will be the official timing partner of the event!
Watch the amateur athletes sweat out their week’s booze in 15 minutes in what promises to be a spectacle to remember. In true Snowbombing style, we’ve roped in a suitable sportsman to be the face of our event, to hand out the medals and generally to be the totem of brilliance that our competitors will praise to in times of need: All hail Eddie the Eagle! The Olympic Gold Medallist Skier is already a true Snowbomber after his ski lessons at the festival last year. Now he’s back, bigger than ever and hosting the inaugural Spring Games!
This is where we need our Snowbombers to get involved! There will be a total of 16 nations taking part, with 10 people representing each nation – that’s 160 participating Snowbombers! From the efficiency of Germany , the bobsleigh mad Jamaicans, the fierce competitors of New Zealand and Australia right through to good old Great Britain (which will surely fill up the fastest). We want each competitor to wholeheartedly embrace their new adopted nation, and live, eat and breathe their country for the duration of the tournament…
Undisciplined Disciplines: Sports and Events
Tug-o-War!
This will be a knock-out tournament with rounds knocking out teams, culminating in a final. This will take place up on the slopes (after all you can’t beat having a quick tug on the mountain in the fresh air!).
Pass the Baton! (Relay Races)
Just like pass the parcel and Norovirus, some things are best passed on! Our relay races will see lots of teamwork and ‘hands on’ interaction. Egg and spoon/sack race/frog-leaping and balloon sharing will all feature.
The Valley Rally
Teams perform a fancy dress relay race around the mountain on ski’s or snowboards, passing the baton amongst themselves at each designated stop. The top four teams form a powdery parade to a chequered flag and cheering crowds. ‘Hop! Hop! Hop!’ - get those cow bells a-clanging!
The Plank Race
The Grand finale of the Snowbombing Olympics! Giant planks will be made that can incorporate all 10 participants of a country onto them, and they’ll race against another country with a knockout system culminating in a final.
The Snowbombing Spring Games are in association with Breo.
Breo are absolutely stoked to become the official timing partner of Snowbombing 2012. If you have not yet had the chance to get your hands, or in this case, wrist on one of the brilliant watches from the Breo range then they are offering you the chance to win a watch ensuring you get to the airport on time for the best winter festival in Europe!
To view their range of awesome products check out www.breo.com. If you fancy being in with the chance of winning 1 of 10 Breo watches head over to our FB page and tell us how a Breo on your wrist would make the trip to Snowbombing that little bit better! Our favourite 10 will win a watch!

Age Categories for 2012
In answer to several questions I thought I would post an update about the age categories for 2012. ERSA has not published the Summer League categories yet as we are waiting on some guidance from SSE for this season. As many of you know there has been a proposal out with some coaches and officials and the changes would affect the national races. As a result of any changes ERSA will look to follow the same direction. These changes for the national races are still being discussed but we are hoping that we will be notified shortly of the changes.
